England pushed the Spanish women’s bronze medal for the fourth consecutive European. The English conquered the whole of Salva Indurain for 1-2 with a goal two minutes from Helen Richardson.
The British had to resort to the success of his goalkeeper, Elizabeth Storry, to delay the start of Spain.
After the break, and after a shot from Crista Cullen close to the post and another shot with his foot took Eguilaz Lopez, came the first goal of the game, won by Silvia Muñoz to the rebound of a penalty-corner in the 46th minute (0-1) did dream of breaking the curse of the bronze.
However, England did not allow it and drew a brilliant reaction by Helen Richardson, alert to deflect a shot on goal from Alex Danson (minute 51).
